Optitron - an intelligent instrumentation panel

When I was sitting comfortably inside a new Corolla recently, I found the dashboard to be attractive. It's stylish, bold and neatly put together. I was particularly curious about the instrumentation panel which is lit in amber, has LCD displays and has a '3-D' appearance.

The stylish panel displays driving and operation information clearly such as instant and average fuel economy, driving range, average driving speed and driving time. The fuel gauge and water temperature indicators show levels in block format i.e. a full tank would display, say, ten blocks and empty would show only one. Other handy information is also shown such as the time, outside temperature, an odometer, and so forth.

Other than the distinctive amber luminescence, colours that feature on the Optitron are green (indicator arrows, cruise control, etc.), red (battery indicator, seat belt on/off, etc.) and purple-blue for the lights on/off indicator.

This intelligent instrument design has crisp, clear formatting which makes it very easy for the driver to get all the information that is needed without having to take eyes away from the road for longer than is necessary. If you drive long distances regularly in low-light conditions you'll appreciate how it's optimised to reduced eye-strain. Such functionality and luxury fits perfectly with the rest of this classy vehicle.

Excellent Feature

I am an owner of a Corolla E-15 1.6 in Greece and I really appreciated this excellent feature from the very first moment.

During daylight, the dashboard is always lighted and clear enough to see under any environmental conditions (like under obstacles like trees that produce shadow etc). While at night, the whole view is just amazing and indeed relaxing for the eyes.

Yep I have to agree with GreekBoy.

Corrolla 2008 - Noisy

I bought a new Corolla on the 1st of December 2008.

Theirs only one thing I hate about this car; a noise coming from the driver's safety belt holder.

I went on a trip to Pretoria from Cape Town (about 1600 km) and this noise was very irritating.

I took the car to a Toyota dealer and was told that they can't fix it as this is a weakness of the new Corolla.

Gearbox and Windscreen Replaced

I never drove a different car in my life accept Toyota's, but was very disappointed with this Toyota. My Corolla 1.6 Advance had 3000km on the clock when the gearbox made a grinding noise when shifting from second, third to fourth.I took it to a Toyota Dealer and was told that, because gearbox come from England, they need to change my oil. Problem persist and gearbox was change. Two weeks later windscreen cracked. Took car to PG glass and was told too much cabin pressure was the cause of the windscreen cracking. My glass of the radio is turning white. When the driver-side window is halfway" terrible noise" I am not a happy chappie!

I hope the new facelift is much better??
Will think about buying it!

Thanks
CHRIS

The wood-lined dashboard

The wood-lined dashboard design is elegant and all cabin textures exude quality. And the doors are moulded in unusual organic shapes that are pleasant as well as practical.

Classic

Corolla should bring the Avensis to India…it's bigger than the Corolla. It should also bring the SUVs it offers in the US like the Highlander which are much more cheaper than the Cruiser. There is a big market for SUVs in India like the international trend but they become double the price here due to duties. They should start assembling them here rather bringing them as CBU’s.
