Be safe this Easter weekend...and enjoy it!

The Easter weekend is about to start and most of us will be enjoying a well-needed break from the usual hustle and bustle.

It's also a time where many will find themselves on the road to various places around the country. Safety on the road should be utmost on your mind should you be one of these travellers. Fortunately the people at Arrive Alive have put together a list of safety tips:

  1. Obey the rules of the road and carry your drivers license with you.
  2. Plan the route to your holiday destination and give yourself enough time to reach the destination
  3. Make sure that your vehicle is in a roadworthy condition before departure. All lights and indicators, windscreen wipers, brakes, steering, exhaust system and tyres should be carefully examined for faults.

Corolla taxicabs in Bangkok

I’ve just returned from holidaying in one of the only countries in the world where booking a taxi cab to collect you from the airport over the Internet comes with a discounted massage! I’m referring to Thailand, and more specifically, the city of Bangkok.

In attempt to reach one of the many shopping centres in the area (yes it really is a shoppers paradise!), we decided to make use of a taxi cab, as the previous days’ Tuk-Tuk encounter had been less than pleasant - a very bumpy ride and a very rude driver.

The taxi terminal outside of the Central World shopping centre is probably the most organized and efficient taxi service I have ever seen. The queue moves lightning fast with the help of “taxi wardens” who summon passengers forward into waiting cabs.  read more »

Holiday checklist

You know where you're going for the holidays and know you're taking a road trip but have you paid enough attention to the nitty gritties of being away and on the road?

What is also vey useful is the document they have available which has information on toll road tariffs so you can better work out how much a trip will cost you.  read more »

Where are you off to these holidays?

It's nearly December and year-end parties as well as malls have infused holiday fever. The best part about concluding the year is that most of us get to take some much-needed time off to unwind and connect with the ones we appreciate the most. Of course this can happen just about anywhere but nothing breaks the monotony of everyday living than being in a different setting doing different things; or nothing at all.

South Africa is such a fantastic country in that there are a countless number of places to visit with breathtaking views. One of my favourite provinces to visit is KZN, Pietermaritzburg specifically. Coming from Jozi's hustle and bustle environment, PMB feels like a slice of heaven - no traffic clean air, no thoughts of the many ways you'd like to torture taxi drivers, etc. It's just bliss.  read more »

Space and storage in the new Corolla

When you first climb into the new Corolla you may notice that it has more space than its predecessors. They've made it wider and is now 1,760 mm which means that passengers in the backseat can sit more comfortably. It's also longer at 4,540 mm which allows for increased legroom. This car also has unique flat rear floor, i.e. no irritating bump in the middle to get in the way of rear passengers' feet. Rear seats have a 60/40 split with folding mechanism. When taking long-distance trips in sunny South Africa with your whole family these things start to matter.  read more »
