Corolla: standard to electric conversion

Green Corolla

A Finnish non-profit group called Sähköautot–Nyt! (which means "electric cars now!"), who call themselves an "open-source electric vehicle community", is set to sign up 500 prospective buyers for their converted Corollas in the first series of production. The conversion is done by replacing the internal combustion engine with an all electric system.

These cars are expected to cost the same as the current petroleum-based models. Before you think about putting your order in, the first 500 will only be available in Finland but it's quite possible that they will be available globally in future. This innovative project is likely to be popular in these days of sky-high fuel prices and global efforts to curb CO2 emissions.
